My first love was oil painting and I have come full circle in my career as an artist. Years ago, I left the corporate world to pursue art. At age 40, divorced and no children, I went back to school full time at The Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, for a full year. I took a sabbatical from my career thinking I would go back to work after graduation. Nothing like being 1 of 2 "40" year olds back in college! What a wonderful time it was.
After trying different mediums in school, I determined my heart was in Raku, and would try to pursue a career in ceramics if I could. It took a few tries, and a few years of applying to the Torpedo Factory, but finally I was accepted full time in 2002 -- and never looked back. I recently retired from Raku and returned to my first love --- oil painting. Over the years I have refined my work, developed different styles, been accepted in various art gallery shows, exhibits.
I spent many summers with my Grandparents on their farm in Illinois which inspired my love of landscapes and the peace it brings me. I mostly paint outdoors -- PLEIN AIR they call it. Here is a wonderful explanation and fits my style.
plein-air
plānˈer/
Denoting or in the manner of a 19th-century style of painting outdoors, or with a strong sense of the open air, that became a central feature of French impressionism.
I hope you enjoy viewing my work and learning how life has directed me here. I am truly blessed to be an artist and I wish you luck and laughter along your own journey.
